CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS –– The Sky’s the Limit – Career Development for
Disabled People
The 2009 University Of Cambridge Annual Disability Conference is this year
taking as its focus disability and careers. Considering the needs of
undergraduate and graduate students this event seeks to bring together a
range of interested individuals. The event will run on the 23rd March 2009
and take place at St John’s College Cambridge. The venue is fully
wheelchair accessible.
The events aims and objectives are as follows;
Aim – to consider career and disability issues and refresh thinking on both
Objectives – to learn about creative provision of careers support across the
higher education sector and share good practice
To consider ways of implementing this within our own institutions
Contributions are sought for the following roles.
Keynote speaker
The keynote speaker will introduce a day long workshop for disability
officers and advisers, and careers advisers working in higher education
considering the support available and that required for disabled students
and recent graduates. The keynote speaker is required to set the scene and
raise pertinent issues with the audience to facilitate later discussion and
engagement in the subsequent activities.
To describe the context for careers advice and disabled students
To discuss recent developments in the field
To introduce a recent piece of work with relevance to disabled students
disabled graduates or disabled employees
Presenters/Workshop leaders
The University of Cambridge Disability Resource Centre welcomes proposals
for either 1 hour participative workshops or 15 minute presentations
including one of the following areas;
Innovative practice in supporting disabled students with careers advice
Innovative practice in supporting disabled graduates in employment
Innovative practice in supporting disabled graduates in research
Support for disabled people working as post docs in the arts or sciences
If you are doing work in a related area and are not sure whether to send in
a proposal or not then please get in touch.
Please indicate within your proposal (which should be a maximum of 2 pages
of A4);

Whether you wish to deliver a 1 hour workshop or a 15 minute presentation
Proposals must be received by 22nd October 2008. Potential contributors are
welcome to apply for any or all of the roles indicated above but will need
to be clear in their proposal what specifically they would discuss in each
of the areas and will only be invited to participate in one of the roles.
