Dear all:
It is my hope that the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at
NYU will soon be able to organize a regular lecture/seminar series in
New York focusing on both seminal and current work in the application of
digital technologies to ancient studies.
The idea was born in conversation with Sebastian Heath and Chuck Jones
on a recent train ride through New Jersey and is of course informed by
the success of the Digital Classicist seminars in London, coordinated by
Gabby Bodard and Simon Mahoney. We would aim to run our series during
the North American academic year, so as not to compete with the London
seminars, and to coordinate the program and dissemination of podcasts
and so forth.
And so I ask for your advice and participation. Are there particular
themes, issues or projects that a seminar series in New York should
address urgently? Do you have work-in-progress that you would like to
present in a congenial and interdisciplinary venue? Are you in New York
(or will you travel there this year) such that you could participate?
I'd be happy to have any suggestions or comments on-list, or via direct
email ... or on your blog ... or via twitter ... or ...
Best,
Tom
