You mean something like this?

You have a non-default language. setenv LANG C (or LANG=C if you prefer)
before starting coot.
The problem may also be due to LC_ALL. So, if the above doesn't work try
also:
setenv LC_ALL C
setenv LC_NUMERIC C
if using bash, one would unset LC_ALL and unset LC_NUMERIC

I normally use
unsetenv LANG LC_ALL LC_NUMERIC
or
unset LANG LC_ALL LC_NUMERIC
