setting dates for events with insufficient notice to allow proper inclusion
of a range of people
This includes the admin/Head at our state primary school who has yet to give
more than a week's notice for fetes/plays/prize day/sports day. Increasingly
the only parents who turn up are retired (like me), unemployed (not many) or
professionals who can do what they like cos, despite a popular myth, no-one
is watching

Thanks for forwarding this Jan - and for your health warning with it!
If only the wording - and the sentiments - were more along the lines of ...
there remains a persistent minority who, for a plethora of interconnected
reasons, forge inexorably ahead – such as sending their children to private
school, setting dates for events with insufficient notice to allow proper
inclusion of a range of people ( add your favourite privilege here...) .
hey ho; at least the BPS are trying to address this stuff at last.
Annie

Hello Everyone,
I have been asked to distribute these notices of events (attached), one of
which is a seminar organised by the Professional Practice Board of the
British Psychological Society on social inclusion. There is an assumption in
the message that supporting govt policy will be beneficial to those who are
suffering due to social exclusion..... an illustration of the challenges in
working with the different perspectives of colleagues in the BPS!
The Communjity Psychology conference in Edinburgh in September promises to
be energising, stimulating, hopefully controversial and well worth worth
signing up to! Definitely not miserable! I am really looking forward to it!
Jan

Subject: Social Inclusion Seminar - 17 October 2008
Importance: High
Hi Courtney
Could you please send this message to the following: Children and Young
People, Complex Mental Health and Forensics Faculties.
Following last year’s successful Social Inclusion Seminar, The Professional
Practice Board is sponsoring its second Social Inclusion Seminar on 17
October 2008, at the Society's London Offices.
As the prosperity and wellbeing of the majority of people in this country
continues to rise, there remains a persistent minority who, for a plethora
of interconnected reasons, get left behind – such as deeply excluded
families, offenders and the unemployed.
What more can be done to help these most excluded members of our population?
This will be addressed through the development of work streams concentrating
on Families, Work and Prisons. The seminar is designed to enable the
Society to move forwards on developing its’ objectives and strategy in the
three work streams to support current policy initiatives and will also give
an ideal opportunity for updates on Government and Society work in the area
of Social Inclusion.
Attendance is free of charge with lunch provided. All we ask it that you
make arrangements to fund your own travel expenses/accommodation. To
reserve a place or seek further information, please contact Zoe Mudie at the
Society’s Leicester office (e-mail: [log in to unmask])
With all good wishes
Nigel
