Dear allstat,
We would like to draw your attention to Pre-Ordinary meetings, novel
events organised by the Young Statisticians Section at the Royal
Statistical Society. They are aimed at encouraging both the involvement
of PhD students in RSS Ordinary meetings, and the attendance of people
not familiar with the area discussed in the read paper being presented.
We hope that such introductory meetings will be of wide interest, not
only to younger statisticians.
Each Pre-Ordinary meeting will take place just before an Ordinary
meeting. They will include introduction to the area discussed in the
read paper by one of the authors and a discussion of related problems of
interest by another speaker. Both are aimed at people who are not expert
in the area. To encourage discussion, we will also run a poster session
after the talks, at which PhD students and young researchers are
encouraged to present their work.
The first Pre-Ordinary meeting will take place on 15 October, at 2:30pm,
details are given below. We hope to see you there.
