Aims
To develop the basic skills for the design and administration of surveys
To raise awareness of the weaknesses of survey research and the means by
which these might be addressed
To enable the use of existing survey questions and data
Description of content The course has 7 principal elements:
1. Methods of survey administration
2. Questionnaire design
3. Sampling survey participants
4. Understanding and minimizing bias and error
5. Preparing data for analysis
6. Using other people’s survey questions and data
7. Presenting results
Learning outcomes By the end of the course, participants should be able
to:
1. Design a quantitative survey
2. Understand and carry out sampling to suit their needs
3. Utilise existing survey questions and data
4. Prepare data for analysis and present results
Who should attend? This course is suitable for those wishing to develop
the basic skills for survey design, or those wishing to renew their skills,
or those seeking a better understanding of survey design and administration
with a view to managing, commissioning or using surveys.
