Dear colleagues
'Re-thinking the screenplay', a one-day conference studying the practice of
screenwriting, is set for Friday 12th September, at the Charles Thackrah
Building, University of Leeds. It is produced by the Louis Le Prince Centre at
the ICS, in association with the University of Art and Design, Helsinki.
Confirmed speakers include film-maker Prof. J.J. Murphy of Wisconsin-Madison,
film-maker Dr. Kathryn Millard of Macquarie, Sydney, Prof. Paul Wells of
Loughborough, screenwriter Adam Ganz of Royal Holloway, writer-director Sue
Clayton, also of Royal Holloway, and screenwriting research students from
Helsinki and Copenhagen. Topics include cultural and other variations to
dominant Western practices, the standardisation of notions of the 'good'
screenplay, and the screenplay as a design document.
Registration is now open at
http://ics.leeds.ac.uk/rethinkingscreenplay/call_for_registration.pdf,
along with details of location and travel. The conference is free for ICS staff,
and we expect also for postgraduate students (to be confirmed). Please
register as soon as possible or contact me for further details.
Look forward to seeing you.
