As part of a sub-group created to assemble knowledge of an historic boatyard
prior to its redevelopment, I have been tasked with the role of assisting in the
coordination of the recording of both archive material and artefacts present on
the site.
The boatyard consists of several grade II listed buildings in various states of
repair, all of which contain objects and possibly some archive material. These
objects, along with the actual fixtures and fittings of the buildings, are going
to be recorded during a number of site visits over the next couple of months
through cataloguing, photographs and statements of significance. This
material is to be given further context by assembling site plans, oral histories,
the collection of documents and identifying other supporting information (site
audits, articles etc.)
I was wondering if anyone has experience of such a project that they would
be willing to share or whether anyone knows of anything similar that has been
undertaken in the last few years? Any advice or suggestions as to the
methodology for the collection and storage of such information will be
gratefully received.
Many thanks,
