Postdoctoral Fellow: Neural function and risk for depression
The Department of Psychology at the University of Reading is seeking a
highly talented and enthusiastic researcher to work on a 2-year MRC
funded project examining neural functioning in relation to risk for
depression/family history of depression in a longitudinally studied
sample of young adults. By working with a population that has been
studied extensively from birth, the project seeks to identify how
environmental exposures predict neural outcomes.
The study will be conducted in an outstanding research environment.
The University of Reading has dedicated £4.5m of the Government's
Science Research Investment Fund (SRIF) to the School's Centre for
Brain, Behaviour and Health. This houses state-of-the-art facilities,
including a research-dedicated 3T Siemens Trio scanner, located in the
new Centre for Integrative Neurosciences and Neurodynamics within the
Psychology building. The Centre also includes laboratories for
high-density EEG, psychophysiology and TMS (EEG and fMRI compatible)
as well as dedicated computing facilities. The applicant will become
part of a strong, multidiciplinary research group with strengths in
both typical and atypical development and cognitive neuroscience.
The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting and
analysing fMRI assessments, managing project data, writing research
reports, and overseeing the general running of the project (including
supervision of a research assistant). Candidates should have A PhD or
equivalent in Psychology or a related subject, experience in
conducting fMRI experiments and analysing brain imaging data, good
organizational skills to ensure the smooth running of the project and
good interpersonal skills for liaising with participants and
supervising the research assistant on the project. Experience in using
Unix/Linux based computers, experience in conducting clinical
interviews and/or experience in conducting psychophysiology
assessments would be advantageous.
The position is fixed-term for two years, starting in November 2008.
Salary is in the range £25,888 to £30,013.
