Dear All
Like so many other organisations we are considering the use of
scanning to reduce document volumes (not necessarily with my
involvement either but that's a different story) so obviously the issue of
BIP 0008 etc rears its head.
Through some personal business today I have come across a
document from a well known High Street company that has an
interesting statement/disclaimer on it that could impact on an
organisation's abilities to either meet the standard or potentially
circumvent the standard completely.
I can't remember the exact wording but the jist of it was 'by signing
this piece of paper you agree that we can scan this document and
destroy the original, and that you are happy for us to use the scanned
image as a genuine copy of the doc if necesary'.
I can see ethical concerns in that it effectively allows the lender the
ability to do whatever they want to the scanned image and means the
signatory accepts the image as a true representation but I was just
wondering if people had any views/comments as to the legitimacy of
the disclaimer and its ramifications?
Thanks in advance.
