In the nineteen forties my dad used the term "it's a snifter" for something
extra special. I don't recall hearing it since then. It may have come by way
of American movies and the prohibition era. Talking of eras, the leader of
the opposition in WA state parliament recently resigned after having
admitted to sniffing a woman colleague's chair at a party. This seems to be
a 'first' although her mind or behind may have been an open book to him.
