medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Doctissimi,
In searching about the web for answers to more questions, I decided that my friend's photos were the best I'd seen and I thought I'd share them with you. http://web.me.com/regant/Site/Byzantine_Ravenna.html
They are yours for the taking and using, but please credit the photographer: Thomas Regan.
If you have any comments or corrections, please send them along and I'll forward. He asked me about the apparent "horns" on the head of the River Jordan god; what I learned was that Okeanos is the inspiration for such images and O sports a pair of crab claws on his head. If this bit of trivia is incorrect, kindly advise.
