Dear Alex

This is Yan from the Cheltenham Ladies College and our school has been accepted for the Autumn Camp course in China with 16 students and two teachers.
We have a situation here. One of the students who has been given a place on the trip Milena Matushkina will not be coming back to the UK for her education and therefore we have to cancel her place. Could you let us know as soon as possible if she can get a refund. Another solution will be that another student can take her place if it is not too late. It will be a prefered option to simply change the names on the register instead of a cancellation.

Sorry for the inconveience and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Kindest Regards
Yan

Subject: British Council Language Immersion courses and SSAT Autumn camps 2008

Dear all,

The British Council and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) are pleased to be able to announce details of two outstanding opportunities for students in this country to visit China with their schools.

Brief details of each programme are given below. For more details, click on the link provided which will also take you through to the applications page. If you have any specific questions, not answered on this webpage, please contact the British Council or the SSAT on the details provided.

Language Immersion Course

This course is managed by the British Council on behalf of DCSF. The course is designed for schools that have Chinese on the curriculum or offer regular Chinese classes. The course dates are 19 July 2008 - 2 August 2008. There will be courses held in Nanhai, Kunming and Shanghai. Participants will have 30 hours of intensive language tuition, at the end of which they will take asset languages exams in speaking and listening Chinese. In addition to this, throughout the course they will experience a range of cultural activities and visits reflecting local and national customs. Central to the course is interaction with Chinese young people and students will have the opportunity to do joint social and cultural activities together, with the highlight of the two weeks for many participants being a visit to their Chinese partner's home. All the in-China costs are funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. There will be no charge to take part in the course, however, participants will need to cover the cost of their flights. Given the high demand for flights to China at this time the British Council has held seats on flights to the different course cities. Both the outward and inward flights are spread across 2 days (19/20 July and 02/03 August respectively) and we will liaise with you to provide the most convenient flights for your group as possible. The flight cost is £850 per person.

Autumn Camps in China

The Autumn Camps programme will be held during the Autumn half-term; the provisional dates are 22nd October to 2nd November. The programme follows the first school camp for UK students which was held very successfully in China in summer 2007. The programme will be managed by the Confucius Institute at the SSAT on behalf of HanBan and supported by the DCSF. The autumn camps programme is designed both for schools offering Chinese - either on or off curriculum - or for schools considering doing so. All schools will visit Beijing and will then split into groups to visit different areas of China including Tianjin, Chongqing, Shandong, Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Hubei. Students will follow a varied programme consisting of Chinese language classes, cultural visits and activities with Chinese students all designed to offer participants an introduction to China and Chinese.

All costs in China (accommodation, internal travel, food, language classes and cultural activities) are covered by HanBan. The price per participant is £850 which covers the flight and attendance at a pre-departure China day at one of a number of venues across the country. At these days the students and teachers will be given introductory Mandarin classes, Chinese history and geography classes and Chinese culture and etiquette hints and tips. They are designed to maximise the benefit of the trip for the participants.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks and best wishes,

Alex
