We have been approached by a prospective student who will be starting a
postgrad with us in September and is visually impaired with no useful vision.
She has provided us with a list of her required textbooks and asked our help in
obtaining electronic versions or in getting print copies transcribed by the
RNIB. The RNIB have told her that if she can get hold of the electronic files
from the publisher this would make the process of the transcription a lot easier
and quicker. Has anyone out there had to do this before or can you offer us
any advice about getting this done. We do have some of the texts
electronically and we also have TextHelp which will allow her to have the
books read aloud but the RNIB will be able to use Daisy to transcribe the texts
onto cds for her which should make them easier to use at home. Any advice
from anyone who has dealt with similar problems in the past would be most
gratefully received.
Thanks for any help you can offer
Sheila
