Furthermore, I tend to think that if you operate with horror and terror as opposites (active, passive), that might be helpful when dealing with the worst misconceptions about horror films and their audience.
"Someone who watches horror films, also stops to stare at the victims of a car crash." suggesting that the genre should be relabeled "sadistic delight films", because itīs taken for granted that those images donīt evoke horror but pleasure. But my 2c is that many horror films function on an amoral (not nonmoral) basis, having in mind a spectator can handle taking a radical position without becoming a serial killer, a 50 feet woman or a smog monster in real life.
