With almost 400 staff, up to 50 students and visiting scientists and an annual budget of £30 million, the BBSRC-sponsored Institute for Animal Health is the largest establishment in the UK undertaking high quality research into infectious diseases of livestock.
Our Bioinformatics group is central to the delivery of innovative science, and in this key role you will focus on the analysis of gene-gene co-expression in post-genomic datasets relevant to animal health. This will involve integrating and developing methods for comparing co-expression across multiple datasets, creating a publishable software resource and generating a pilot database covering multiple datasets.
A bioinformatician or statistician with strong mathematical, programming and database skills, you will be strongly interested in biological issues. At the same time, you will bring experience of Linux, Perl, C or Java programming; MySQL or similar databases; R, S-plus, Matlab or SAS; and Ensembl or another genome annotation project. Finally, experience of analysing microarray data is essential, and you will preferably be skilled in dealing with proteomics information.
