Diabetes Trials Unit, University of Oxford

TWO Medical Statistician Positions

Grade 7: Salary £27,466 - £33,780 with a discretionary range to £36,912 p.a.

The Diabetes Trials Unit (DTU), University of Oxford wishes to appoint two
statisticians to work on its expanding portfolio of clinical trials. The DTU
is the largest Academic Research Organisation (ARO) worldwide that
specialises in performing diabetes-related mega-trials and forms an integral
part of the 5* rated University of Oxford Nuffield Department of Medicine.
The Unit, together with its internationally recognised Statistics and
Modelling Group (SMG) headed by Dr Sanjoy Paul, designs, runs and analyses
large-scale national and multinational interventional outcome trials,
performs disease specific genetic and biomarker studies and undertakes
challenging statistical methodological research.

The successful candidates will join an innovative and award winning research
team specialising in the field of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
Each will work on a range of clinical trials and projects and have basic
statistical responsibility for at least one mega-trial. The post holders
will learn about all aspects of trial design as well as advanced
biostatistical applications to conduct novel analyses. The DTU provides a
stimulating working environment with excellent opportunities for further
training, career development and academic advancement.

Applicants for these positions should have an MSc in Statistics or a related
subject together with proven experience in clinical data analysis. The
posts are funded for two years in the first instance with a high probability
that they will be extended, contingent upon continued research funding.
Salary is dependent on previous experience and benefits include 38 days
holiday (including public holidays) and a contributory pension scheme.

The deadline for applications is Thursday 4th September 2008. Interviews
are due to be held on Monday 29th September 2008. A detailed job description
