The Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) is one of the world's leading centres for research into the causes, prevention and treatment of chronic diseases (such as heart disease and cancer). An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Statistician to join CTSU's Vascular Overviews Group, an interdisciplinary group of clinicians, epidemiologists and statisticians at the international forefront of research into the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The main role will involve analysis of individual-patient data for meta-analyses of randomised trials assessing the effects of anti-inflammatory drugs on the risks of cardiovascular and of gastrointestinal outcomes. The post holder will be expected to assist with interpretation of findings and the writing of scientific papers. There may also be opportunities to work on other studies within the Unit, including epidemiological studies of the genetic, biochemical and lifestyle causes of cardiovascular disease and large-scale randomised controlled trials. It is hoped that the successful applicant will ultimately progress to take a prominent role in the writing of research papers and the presentation of findings at scientific meetings.
Applicants should have a relevant Postgraduate qualification in Medical or Applied Statistics, good computational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and an interest in cardiovascular research, together with experience of statistical analysis, preferably in SAS or a similar package. The appointee will work under the general direction of a senior statistician, and also with senior clinicians and other epidemiologists.
