Medical Research Council
CLINICAL TRIAL SERVICE UNIT
& EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDIES UNIT (“CTSU”)
University of Oxford
MEDICAL STATISTICIAN (HEART STUDIES GROUP)
£25,368-£31,048 (pay award pending)
The Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) is one of
the world’s leading centres for research into the causes, prevention and
treatment of chronic diseases (such as heart disease and cancer). The large
randomised trials and epidemiological studies often include collection of blood
samples, allowing the measurement of phenotypes, such as blood lipids, and of
genotypes. These studies represent powerful resources with which to explore
in detail known important risk factors and to assess new potential factors.
For further information about CTSU see www.ctsu.ox.ac.uk
An opportunity has arisen for a statistician to work on the heart/vascular
disease studies, particularly on genetic association substudies within these
studies and trials. These very large studies each include over 15,000 heart
disease cases and incorporate blood sample assays and genotyping. You will
work under the overall direction of a senior statistician and will work closely
with clinical epidemiologists. A relevant higher degree and experience of
statistical analysis, preferably in SAS or a similar package are essential.
This position is subject to pre-employment screening. We are offering a
competitive remuneration package for the ideal candidate, including generous
holiday entitlement.
