Heather, it's wonderful to know of your playwrightings and your M.A. study
as well.
Re NPR (National Public Radio), "everyone" here seems to listen to it, tho
I've only caught it fleetingly in the last several years, memorably a couple
weeks ago.
It's probably a good idea for you to listen to bits of its programming
online for a sampling of where your work would fit. [David Sedaris used to
be a huge favourite for his sweet/sad/sharp stories; I think he's since gone
Bigger.....into films] <g>
To hear a fascinating recent brief program on NPR:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91684115
It's part of the "This I Believe" series. In this 19 June 2008 segment,
host Cheryl Corley interviews director Sarah Gavron and actor Tannishtha
Chatterjee of the critically acclaimed film, _Brick Lane_, based upon Monica
Ali's best-selling novel.
The film explores the personal and political aspects of immigrants in the
UK. In this instance, it's a Bangladeshi woman who comes to East London
for an arranged marriage, but changes the course of her life when she has an
affair with a younger man.
Though it seems that Everyone in the UK has read the book and seen the film,
it's "new" and released in far-fewer-than-the-norm theatres in the
USAmerica.
Thanks for asking about my own "immigrant" status, Heather! Indeed, I am
actively trying to get into the UK, but it'll take 4 months, more or less,
to accomplish. <sigh>
All the best, and keep us on your emailing list!
Judy
