In the department of mathematics and physical sciences at the University of
Kiel, Germany, the institute for Physical Chemistry invites applications for
the position of a
Junior Research Group leader "Theoretical Chemistry"
(Junior Professor, W1)
Applicants should have proven expertise in method development and applications
in a modern area of theoretical chemistry, complementing the existing research
areas (quantum-mechanical wavepacket propagation, global geometry
optimization). Possible areas include ab-initio and DFT methods in electronic
structure theory, with a focus on electronically excited states, or classical
and direct ab-initio molecular dynamics, but also other areas. Contributions
to the Cluster of Excellence "Future Ocean" and to the Collaborative Research
Center "Function by Switching" (SFB 677) are desired, as well as a
commensurate participation in the teaching program of the institute.
The position is initially offered for 3 years. After a positive evaluation, a
prolongation for another 3 years is planned.
Candidates should have an excellent academic record, with a PhD in theoretical
chemistry completed within the past 6 years, and adequate teaching skills.
The University of Kiel seeks to increase the number of female employees
in research and teaching; therefore, qualified female scientists are
particularly encouraged to apply for this position. Physically handicapped
persons will be preferred, if they are equally qualified.
Applications with the usual documents (including a c.v., copies of academic
documents, list of publications, short perspective on research and teaching,
and names of three references) should be sent until August 31, 2008, to the
