This is really a job for a full-time web developer, at least while new
information is coming in daily.
But kids are amazing.......
Your problem is that the information you want to provide is in a number of
different formats - text, lots of images, audio, video. You could create a
custom page on YouTube for the video clips, but that wouldn't handle all the
static images unless you converted them to a video slideshow.
Hand-coding is going to be too slow for what you want, but the professional
method of pulling data from a server-side database and auto-formatiing with
PHP and Javascript is too complex, and much too costly. I'd recommend
registering a domain with someone like Freeola, who will provide you with a
name and plenty of webspace quite cheaply. Get hold of one of the cheap or
free packages that use templates to create websites quickly, and let one or
more of the kids at it. You may find a cheap ISP that offers both hosting
and page creation nowadays. You'll need to upload your video to YouTube or
similar, and embed it into your pages, because a "free" provider won't
handle video bandwidth. YouTube has instructions on how to do it. It might
be worth doing this with the audio as well - create a video file with just
the title or a still, and the audio interview as the soundtrack - although
most hosts won't complain about a few mp3 files.
Best wishes,

Subject: Web technology help needed.....!
Hi GEM,
We have a very exciting programme of excavation happening at our site in
August. I won't bore you with all the details, but we have a group of young
people working on a project to record everything that's happening -
photographing, filming, interviewing the archaeologists, keeping a daily
diary of what's coming up (out of the ground that is!) etc.....
I want to know what the best way of making this information available to the
public is? We are a small charity and I have no budget as such! It is
costly for us to make changes and additions to our website. Could a myspace
page work?
I really have no idea about this kind of technology and how it works, so any
advice would be much appreciated. I know the young people themselves may
have ideas of how we can do it, but I just wanted to sound you all out
first, so I don't appear like a complete idiot when I meet them next week!
Oh and if anyone wants to come to the Isle of Wight to see it all happening
in August, have a look at our website for more details

Many many thanks,
