Further to the note from Mary, this year's Archive Awareness Campaign theme of "Take Your Place in History", is aiming to highlight the work of community archive groups and black and minority ethnic archive groups.
The AAC 2008 website (www.archiveawareness.com) has an online form to fill in for events which are taking place this year, so please do visit and add your events to the online register.
NCA and its partners are also looking to help with a number of events which are planned for November, to coincide with the national AAC event in Parliament in early November. Ideally we are looking for one event per region and are particularly looking for events involving schools/younger people, community archives groups and projects relating to black and minority ethnic communities. NCA would want to help with organising speakers, publicising the project with local/regional/national opinion-formers/decision-makers and promote within the relevant media outlets.

Subject: Community Archives and Identities: website launch
The website/blog for the AHRC project 'Community Archives and
Identities: Documenting and Sustaining Community Heritage', based at UCL
is now live here <http://archivesandidentities.com>. Please bookmark the
link and forward the information to anyone you think may be interested.
The aim of the project is to investigate the role community archives
play in supporting a sense of rootedness and identity amongst black and
other minority ethnic communities in particular. We are also interested
in the role community archives play in raising awareness of these
neglected histories in the wider public and challenging collective
representations. How such projects can best be supported from both
within and outside the mainstream archive sector is also a major theme
of this research.
We hope that the blog will provide a forum for a wide discussion of some
of the issues arising and we welcome contributions from anyone with an
interest in this area - activists, archivists, family historians,
researchers - and we're also keen to publicise talks, publications,
events etc., so do please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!
