The Hertfordshire Primary Care trusts are responsible for the health and
wellbeing of the 1.1 million population of the county. The two Primary
Care trusts - West Hertfordshire PCT and East&North Hertfordshire PCT
have a single administration which includes an active and dynamic Public
Health department. There are strong links with the East of England
Public Health Observatory for both training and joint working.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Public Health
Intelligence team to support the health-based information and analysis
we provide to the staff of the two Hertfordshire PCTs. Applications are
invited for the post of Epidemiologist, whose role is to work in the
PCTs on all types of epidemiological and demographic analyses required
for planning, performance management and health impact assessment of
health programmes as well as supporting the research taking place in the
department into new ways of working. You will be part of a Public Health
Intelligence team of 3 and work in collaboration with the other
Information Analysts of the PCTs' Information department and the staff
of the Directorate of Public Health .

Applicants must have a good first degree (preferably with a large
statistical component) and, preferably, have or be working towards a
postgraduate qualification in medical statistics (or a closely related
subject). Experience of working in a Primary Care Trust, Health
Authority or other NHS organisation would be beneficial but not
essential. 

Experience in the use of statistical packages is essential - preferably
STATA - together with good verbal and written communication skills,
including the ability to explain complex statistical issues to
non-statisticians. Experience in the use of a mapping package would also
be desirable. 

The post holder will be based within the Information Department but will
work with staff from Public Health, Primary Care and Commissioning as
well as external organisations such as the Hertfordshire County Council
and General Practices.. There are good opportunities for both
educational development and research.
