Hi everyone,
I just thought I'd introduce myself before posting to the list. I've been
enjoying reading the posts and agree with a lot that has been said about the
lack of recognition for the RM profession, even though I'm new to it myself.
I graduated from a Master's in Library and Information Studies program at the
University of Alberta (in Edmonton, Canada) last year and have been working
for the Records and Information Management Branch of the Government of
Alberta since 2006. Before moving to Canada in 2001, I was a systems
analyst/programmer in London, England where I worked with document
management systems (PC Docs, then Hummingbird).
Right now I’m working on a functional classification system and retention
schedule. Actually, I’m just working on the first phase - breaking down
business activities and mapping them to a hierarchy of function, sub-function
and activity.
I would love to hear from other people who are developing functional
classification systems. We are working in an extremely small team (2 people)
and it is a huge task so any input is very welcome!
Thank you,
Paula
