Dear all
I am another who likes this list in all its - occasionally dubious - glory.
Jobs, moans or whatever. It's great to get the facts and the feelings about
what is going on. A couple of years ago, I joined the sister list for HR
advisers, [log in to unmask] I think that is the right email address but
it was so dull and rarely used that I can't remember. I was hoping to
contribute to a whole range of debates, give the OH viewpoint, provide a bit
of advice and maybe get some business. All I received was the odd email
about some esoteric academic conference that seemed so far removed from
reality, I gave up.
I accept that the list is not all nurses and we should welcome that and
perhaps be a bit more specific in what we say. However, given the choice
between the odd high brow posting and the wide range we receive here, for
which a quick press of the delete key is an occasional option, I know which
I would rather have.
Lindsey

With respect Sian and Bob,
Have you ever tried to use OHjobs@drsmaze?
It is awful.
I actually welcome all posts. It then allows the user to keep an eye on
whats going on and where!
Neil
Long live the jobs!

I did discuss my concerns on this problem with Bashyr offline a few weeks
ago, and as a nurse I totally agree with you Sian.
Sadly, it appears that the list has lately become a cost free advertising
vehicle for employment/recruitment agencies looking for OH nurses and
physicians, although there is a separate area of the list for this type of
communication (OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH JOBS http://OHJobs.drmaze.net).
At the risk of making myself very unpopular, I would suggest that one way of
stopping this abuse of the list would be for those of us who don't wish to
be bombarded with these job advertisement emails is to reply to the sender
with a blank and empty email, thereby flooding their inbox with useless
responses.....they may then get the message!!!!

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] multi-disciplinary list
Dear All,
I find this list really useful. It provides support for people working
alone, answers to tricky questions, reassurance that instincts are right,
pointers to new information, humour, and the odd job. I think it is worth
saying though, the list is not exclusive to nurses. That is part of its
value of course, questions can often be answered by professionals with more
experience, or different experience and qualifications including OH
physicians, health and safety professionals, lawyers and all sorts of other
specialists. Recently though there has been a fair amount of assumption that
everyone on here is a nurse - particularly in the increasing number of
woolly job adverts and chat/moans about the RCN. I don't want this post to
sound like a moan but could we remember that this is a multi-disciplinary
list and if we want to encourage and benefit from the input of non-nurses we
should be more inclusive in our use of the list and cut out some of the chat
(and woolly job adverts) that just clog up inboxes?
Just a suggestion ... Sian
