medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: SHERRY L REAMES <[log in to unmask]>
>I've forgotten who originally asked about miniature statues, but just ran
across a reference to a forthcoming article on the subject by Corine Schleif
(Art History, Arizona State).
> Here's the citation: "Saint Hedwig's Personal Ivory Madonna: Women's Agency
and the Powers of Possessing Portable Figures," in _Four Modes of Seeing:
Approaches to Medieval Images in Honor of Madeline Caviness_, ed. Evelyn Lane,
Elizabeth Pastan and Ellen Shortell (Basingstoke, expected summer 2008).
i've not seen this article (obviously), but i believe i have seen something
about this artifact (perhaps it was mentioned on this list a few months
ago??), and it is a very interesting one.
in any event, anything which made it into a Festschrift for Madeline Caviness
would be well worth reading, i'm thinking.
