Eleanor,
Is it on National Trust land?
If so 'TNT' probably means The National Trust, 'MVD' moved and 'IT' is 'as it says on the tin'.
Which begs the questions as to what it is, where it stool before it was moved and why it was moved. I have no answers for these.

Hello All,
This is a long shot, but so far I have drawn blanks from every
source.....
A stone on the edge of Ullswater lake has an inscription 'TNT MVD IT'.
The stone is large, on its own and a few feet from the waterline
adjacent to the footpath. I don't suppose anyone has any ideas as to
what it might mean? It isn't on an old or existing parish, district or
county boundary and the family name of the landowner doesn't correlate
either. It may well be some old graffiti, but the inscription seems too
well engraved and uniform for that.
If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!
Cheers,
Eleanor
