CBA Community Archaeology Support Officer
Do you have a strong commitment to communicating the enjoyment and benefits of archaeology to a broad audience? Do you have experience of working with the voluntary sector? Would you like to work for an organisation at the forefront of archaeological advocacy in the UK?
If so then you should be interested in taking up the role of Community Archaeology Support Officer within the Council for British Archaeology. This new post is funded with a grant from the Headley Trust. It will be based in the historic city of York, and includes an excellent package of benefits, including a salary of £20-23k/yr, plus pension. The job will be offered initially as an 18 month contract. We would hope the job will become a permanent one thereafter, subject to further funding.
A crucial element in the CBA's strategy is to support participation and discovery in archaeology. In this role, the CBA champions the role of the voluntary sector, and in particular the rapid growth in community archaeology in recent years. This is a thriving and developing sector, but one with complex needs and challenges ahead.
You will be responsible for conducting, interpreting and disseminating a programme of research and for helping to shape a fresh, forward-looking and sustainable strategy of support for the community sector.
The job therefore requires someone with proven experience in liaising with the voluntary sector and with an understanding of its complexity and needs. The successful candidate will be a good communicator, preferably with experience of writing for the web. The post will involve extensive travel around the UK.
You will also have a good general knowledge of archaeology, and especially of field methodology, recording and standards, as well as information dissemination and publication.
For further details and enquiries, please contact Dr Dan Hull, Head of Information & Communications, CBA, St Mary's House, 66 Bootham, York YO30 7BZ (tel 01904 671417, email [log in to unmask]). The closing date is 29th September 2008.
