Ten years of the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement
Special Issue of Forced Migration Review
www.fmreview.org/GuidingPrinciples10.htm
2008 is the 10th anniversary of the submission of the Guiding Principles
on Internal Displacement to the UN Human Rights Commission. In December
2008, we will publish a short special issue of Forced Migration Review
to mark this anniversary, in collaboration with the Representative of
the Secretary-General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced
Persons, the Brookings-Bern Project on Internal Displacement and the
Norwegian Refugee Council. The special issue will follow an
international conference on the same theme, to be held in Oslo in
October, and will cover three main themes: taking stock; effective
implementation; and future challenges.
The FMR Editors are looking for practice-oriented submissions,
reflecting a diverse range of opinions, on the following aspects of the
Guiding Principles:
* examples of their application/implementation
* testimonies and case-studies of their application
* their successes and limitations
* lessons that can be learned from the past ten years of applying them
* how they have affected the work of implementing agencies
* successful implementation approaches and ‘tools’
* challenges faced in implementation
* what is necessary to ensure the future of the Guiding Principles.
