I thought it was pretty clear that Jon was satirising the reactions of others... but apparently not clear enough!

I am shocked to have seen such unsympathetic responses as Jon Cloke's to the perfectly reasonable questioning of the status of a potential application. I note that many of the "shocked" comments have been made by visibly white men, safely in post, who presumably are not intending to give up their positions in the name of equality.
Having lived in Southern Africa at a time when everything was classified by race, I wince at the fact that stating one's ethnic/racial identity is now conventional. I refuse to participate in this and always write "none" where asked irrelevant questions about my genetic/social make-up.
As to certainty about membership of this list, increasing numbers of us are wondering.

James,
How dare you/are you sure this list is for you/you make me ashamed to be a critical geographer, etc., etc.

Hi,
Thank you for letting us know about the lecturer position at Leeds Metropolitan University (below). This is certainly something that would interest me. As we all know job applications take considerable time to complete, so I would like some clarification regarding the advert.
Without ruffling too many feathers, and simply for clarification; as I am a white British male, am I encouraged to apply? In short, merit aside, would I effectively be wasting my time in completing the application?
Best Regards
James
