POST 1: STATISTICIAN; Grade 7: £27,466-£33,780 per annum
Fixed term post funded until 30 September 2012 by the Medical Research
Council

Applications are invited for a statistician to work as part of a dynamic
research team in the Cancer Epidemiology Unit, under the direction of Dr
Jane Green and Dr Andrew Roddam. The post holder will be responsible for
implementing (and when necessary devising) appropriate methods for the
analysis of data from a variety of research projects.

Applicants should have a good degree in Statistics (preferably Medical
Statistics), as well as high proficiency in at least one statistical
analysis program (including STATA, SPLUS/R or SAS) and fluency in all
aspects of study design and analysis. A flexible approach to deal with a
changing environment, and the ability to work unsupervised (often under
pressure) on routine matters will be essential. As a team player, you
will have excellent attention to detail, communication skills as well as
the ability to deal with confidential data.

POST 2: EPIDEMIOLOGIST; Grade 7: £27,466-£33,780 per annum
Fixed term post to funded until 31 August 2011 by the Health and Safety
Executive

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral researcher to work on a
project investigating the relationship between shift work and disease.
The project aims to collect information on patterns of shift work (using
questionnaires and biological samples) from two large cohort studies in
the Cancer Epidemiology Unit. We will investigate whether or not
patterns of shift work are associated with other risk factors for common
diseases, how shift work patterns are associated with biological markers
(both of disease and of circadian disruption), and the association
between shift work and chronic disease.

The post holder will take responsibility for the day-to-day management
and implementation of the project. This will involve working with both
the Million Women Study and EPIC-Oxford investigators to survey the two
cohorts on shift working patterns, including development of an online
questionnaire. In addition the post holder will perform analyses of the
data arising from the project and prepare papers for publication.

Applicants should have a PhD in Epidemiology, a flexible approach to a
changing environment, and the ability to work unsupervised (often under
pressure) will be essential. As a team player, you will have excellent
communication skills and a desire to drive initiatives forward to
completion.

FURTHER INFORMATION:

More detailed information about both posts is available online at
http://www.ceu.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/110/ for POST 1, and at
http://www.ceu.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/109/ for POST 2.

Informal enquiries about both posts can be made direct to Andrew Roddam.

To apply please submit a completed application form (available from the
above websites), cover letter and full curriculum vitae to The Personnel
Administrator, Cancer Epidemiology Unit, University of Oxford, Richard
Doll Building, Roosevelt Drive, OXFORD, OX3 7LF or by email to
[log in to unmask]

The closing date for applications is noon on Friday 18 July 2008. It is
anticipated that interviews will be held during the last week of
July/first week in August.
