Shell is now recruiting for Statistics & Chemometrics graduates: Innovation is a way of life at Shell. We operate at the leading edge of many technologies; not only in oil, gas and chemicals but also in alternative energies such as hydrogen, wind and solar. But technical leadership begins with technical expertise. Which is why we work so hard to attract and develop people like you - today's talent and tomorrow's leaders.
Looking for statisticians, data analysts, chemometricians and modellers: Shell currently has a number of opportunities for statisticians, data analysts, chemometricians and modellers to join our world leading research and development business in the UK and Netherlands.
The role: By providing statistical expertise you will be helping Shell's commerce, finance, process and product development industries develop world leading business solutions. As part of a international team you will be able to draw on 30 years of experience in providing cutting-edge consultancy, software innovation and training.
Katharina Gruenberg joined Shell this year and is a statistical consultant in the UK. She says: "What I love most about my job at Shell is the variety. Not only does the level of statistics vary from training non technical people to understand basic stats to cutting edge academic research, but the areas I work in are as broad. In my first 6 months I've worked on: bioinformatics to support the research in biofuels, extreme value statistics to help build safer platforms and applications from CO2 emission modelling to Equal Opportunity analysis. Although I am anything but quiet, I go home in the evening with the feeling that I have changed the (Shell) world."
What will we look for in you? For the role you will need an MSc or PhD in either: Applied Statistics, Chemometrics, Mathematics, Operational Research or other numerate discipline with high statistics content.
However, a good academic record is not everything. Experience tells us to go deeper; we'll carefully assess your ability to analyse problems, deliver results and work effectively with others. Within the role you will need to: build an understanding a customers' specific needs, use your statistical expertise to develop and implement an appropriate statistical methodology, communicate effectively - updating customers and training them in the use/interpretation of results, build relationship with target business communities, and promote statistics inside and outside Shell.
