Dear Members,
I have been asked to circulate the following advertisement :
We have a vacancy for a senior curator's post at the Thackray Museum.
Please see below for details.
Senior Curator - Salary £22,000 p.a.
Full time, permanent
closing date 16 June 2008
An opportunity for a keen museum professional to help shape the future
of the Thackray Museum.
The Thackray Museum opened its doors to the public 10 years ago, and
has been awarded several prestigious prizes. We welcome around 75,000
visitors each year who come from all over the UK to take part in our
vibrant schools programme or visit our interactive galleries. Our
collection comprises around 50,000 objects and books, including a rare
collection of medical trade catalogues, surgical instruments, and
apothecary jars.
We are looking for an ambitious senior curator with the ability to
develop our collections; the ambition to target new audiences through
improved exhibitions and interpretation; and the tenacity to manage a
team of curators. We are looking ahead to the next ten years,
re-thinking our priorities and strategic direction. In the medium term,
this will include a re-development of the museum and its exhibitions. As
Senior Curator, you will play a vital role in this process, contributing
to and participating in the strategy debate as a member of our senior
management team, which consists of the Marketing & Audience Development
Officer, Education Officer, Conference and Visitor Services Managers,
the Finance Assistant and the CEO.
Our plans for redisplaying the galleries are still young, and you will
play a major role in the strategic development of the Thackray Museum.
Reporting to the CEO, you will have responsibility for the curatorial
team of three, volunteers and PhD students.
Full details and an application form can be found on the Thackray
Museum website www.thackraymuseum.org/vacancies
