Oh, I'm sure they'd let you into Cuba, and those broad-minded Australians
endured your presence for a couple of weeks.

I picked up on the second-syllable stress pronunciation from my thesis
supervisor, who was American, quite late in life, in my twenties. Dunno
what the current consensus is.
Were you referring to Cromwell's return from Ireland or the Nymph
complaining for the death of her fawn?
Then there's "Ralegh", which seems to have displaced "Raleigh". At least we
know how that was pronounced ("rawly") thanks to the groaner by Jimmy the
Sixth and One, "I hae heard somewhat rawley of you."
[Followed by an aside, "Get that Devonshire mental boy into the
Tower before I reach Lunnon!!!"
