Hi folks,
This might be of interest:
http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/polyquery/mcg_index.html
It's basically a configurable, API-independent search tool to access
multiple online databases from a single form. There's a kind of user
guide/dicussion document as well, plus you can download the rather
shambolic PHP code (GPL), which some might like to install or play with.
I won't be able to make the MCG meeting, but this sort of overlaps with
several of the themes. I wouldn't claim that the code is classy,
polished, or finished, but I think it does work OK, and does indicate
that there's scope for some quick and simple solutions to linking data
sources, as well as more rigorous standards-based approaches. Once good
contect is available to the web, there's a lot can be done with it, to
some extent, regardless of APIs etc.
Any comments on the approach, documentation, or indeed actual code or
example pages gratefully received. I'd also be interested to know if
anybody sets up their own pages using the code!
Cheers
John
Ps Hope this doesn't "slashdot" our server!
