Salary: £22,122 - £24,545 p.a. (pay award pending)
The Historic Environment Service is part of Somerset Heritage Service. It comprises a multi-disciplinary team of heritage professionals protecting and caring for all aspects of the Historic Environment in Somerset.
It is responsible for maintaining the Historic Environment Record (HER) offering planning, conservation and heritage advice to the County and District Councils, statutory undertakers, agencies and the public. This is an exciting time to work for the service, as we prepare to move to a new purpose built Heritage Centre late in 2009.
We are looking for a qualified archaeologist to take a full part in the work of a busy heritage service. You will be part of a team responsible for providing heritage advice to planning authorities, agencies, and members of the public and elected members. You will also be responsible for inputting data into the HER and knowledge of GIS would be an advantage. The post holder will also assist with work in developing a bid for World Heritage Site status for the Somerset Levels & Moors and also work in Conservation areas, outreach and interpretation.
You will have a degree in archaeology or closely related subject, appropriate experience and a willingness and enthusiasm to learn about the wide range of work provided by a local authority historic environment services. Membership of the Institute of Field Archaeologists is strongly encouraged.
