I would like to inform list users that the new National Occupational
Standard (NOS) for Libraries,Archives and Information Services ( which
alos covers Records Management) have now been issue. Currently they can be
found at www.ukstandards.org (N.B. search by organisation, at the right).
These should come over time to form an important tool for employers in the
future recruitnment and training of staff working in theses areas. Some
people may be surprised and concerned at the presentataion of a single NOS
for what they see as quite distinct groups of staff, but the standard
seeks to balance the common areas of activity and skills with the more
specialist elements, and I hope this is something we have managed to
achieve.
