Hello
I work for the Dept for Work & Pensions' press office. In partnership with
The National Archives we are putting together a press pack that will
hopefully generate media coverage marking 100 years of the State Pension.
The material in the press pack currently includes:
- photos from the early 1900s (women in a workhouse, a London St scene etc)
- extracts from pension committee records detailing claims for pensions
- Pensions Officers' compensation claims for injury in the course of duty
- factors taken into consideration when deciding on claim (income, age etc)
- timeline setting out key milestones of the pension from 1908 to now
- 1900s cost of living, demography and other related statistics
- facts and figures comparing the pension system in 1908 vs 2008
However, we would like to make this relevant for regional and local media.
As such we are looking for photos and any other local info (such as the
location of alms / workhouses) that illustrates life in the early 1900s.
If you hold this kind of information in your archive, please call me on
0203 267 5128 or email on [log in to unmask]
I look forward to hearing from you and many thanks for your time.
