Hi everyone
I have another poser here that I'd be grateful for any opinions on!
One of the colleges in our area is closing down soon. Whilst I am clear on
where the pupil files should go (we will retain them in our Council archive
for those learners who have finished at the college, whilst pupils who have
transfered to another establishment will have their records forwarded on),
I am just seeking clarification on the remaining records.
Many college records of course need to be kept permanently - so I am
assuming that the records should go to the local archives?
I've looked in the RMS Retention Guidelines for Schools and there are only
a couple of references to records in relation to closed schools -
'Instruments of government' are to be transered to archives
whilst 'employers's liability certificates' should be retained for 40 years
after the school has closed.
If anyone on the list has experience of a school / college closing, I'd be
grateful for any advice in this regard.
Many thanks
Sarah
