PEG YOUNG (US Department of Transportation) THE US FEDERAL STATISTICAL
SYSTEM
This presentation will describe the structure of the highly
decentralised federal statistical agencies in the US, and it will
provide insight into how the various federal statistical agencies work
collectively to provide needed information on the United States. The
description of the Federal Statistical System will include the history,
activities, outputs and customers of the 70+ federal agencies whose
responsibilities include the production of statistical information,
along with the coordination between them. Also included in Peg's talk
will be a discussion of the debates over centralisation versus
decentralisation of the statistical system, agency principles and
practices, privacy and confidentiality, and other issues regarding the
organization and functioning of the system.
