Hi all
Opinions please:
employee with epilepsy working in food production factory. Factory policy
now to wear mandatory ear muff style defenders. He came to me saying that
he has worn his earmuffs with a gap at the bottom and has now been told to
wear them covering his ears and he felt that this would cause him to have a
seizure as he has been feeling dizzy.
I explained that I thought this was unlikely and his symptoms are more
likely to be caused by the incorrect positioning of the earmuffs.
I provided him with a different set to try, educated him on the correct
wearing position and gave him a leaflet to take away (which I saw him put
in the bin outside my office)
Taht afternoon he had a seizure on the factory floor including loss of
bladder function!
I have seen him today and he is saying it is because he couldn't wear the
earmuffs with a gap and it is mine and the managers fault for making him do
this and watching him. I explained that I thought the fact that he got
stressed and worked up about the issue was more of a trigger than the
earmuffs.
Your thoughts??
Clare
