Hi Group
I sent this earlier...not sure if it got thru...
The first coal mining company I worked for here in NSW in the 1950's operated eight large collieries. Each pit had a Colliery Manager and the usual hierachy of staff. In overall charge was the Superintendent of Collieries who reported to the Board. The Chief Surveyor was also designated "Agent" and under this title, signed all lease and property agrements. Many years later on my first appointment as colliery manager with another much smaller undertaking I was instructed to sign any lease documents with the title "Manager and Agent". In subsequent managerial positions I never again encountered the title and it appears to have been abandoned.
Regards
John
