Teaching Fellow
Film Studies
Centre for Intercultural Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities
University College London

University College London seeks applications for a part-time temporary
Teaching Fellow in Film Studies, to start from 1 September 2008. The
lecturer will be based in the Centre for Intercultural Studies, but
will contribute above all to teaching on the successful MA Film
Studies programme in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. This is a .75
position (hours to be negotiated), running from 1 September 2008 to 27
March 2009.

The new Teaching Fellow will cover for Dr Lee Grieveson during his
research leave and will assist the Acting Director of the MA in Film
Studies, Dr Claire Thomson. In doing so, the postholder will teach on
the core course of the MA in Film Studies, on a Research Methods
course for MA Film Studies students, and may be invited to offer an
MA-level module related to his or her own research. The postholder
will also be expected to make a significant contribution to the
administration of the programme. It is likely that the postholder will
also help in the teaching of film at undergraduate level, in the
context of, in particular, the interdisciplinary BA in Language and
Culture and BA Modern Languages programmes.

The MA Film Studies at UCL is housed under the aegis of the Centre for
Intercultural Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. It is a
successful inter-departmental programme which attracts students from
around the world. UCL has a thriving research culture in Film Studies,
including regular Film Studies research seminars and, with other
Colleges in the University of London, research symposiums.

Applications are welcomed from specialists in any aspect of film
studies. It may be an advantage to have research expertise in American
or British cinema.

The appointment will be made within the range of a UCL Teaching Fellow
position (0.75 of 30,912-33,780, plus 0.75 of 2649 p.a. London
Weighting), depending on experience. Cost of living pay awards are
negotiated nationally and are normally effective from 1 August each
year. The successful candidate will be eligible to join the
Universities Superannuation Scheme, which is a final salary scheme
with a current employee contribution rate of 6.35% and an employer
contribution rate of 14% of salary.

Candidates should submit six copies of their application by post to
Patrizia Oliver, Film Studies Administrator, Department of Italian,
UCL, Gower Street, London, WC1E6BT . Applications should be in the
form of a curriculum vitae, equal opportunities classification form (
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/docs/download_forms/EOform.doc ) and full list
of publications plus a covering letter. Applicants are also invited to
submit a sample syllabus. Candidates should include the names and
contact details of two referees.

For informal enquiries about the post and to request for job
description, please contact either the Director of the Graduate
Programme in Film Studies, Dr Lee Grieveson (tel 020 7679 2266;
e-mail: [log in to unmask]) or Dr Claire Thomson (tel 020 7679
3177; e-mail: [log in to unmask]).

It is expected that interviews will be held on Thursday 3 July. The
successful candidate will need to be in post by 1 September 2008. This
is a temporary position and will run for two terms, until 27 March
2009.

UCL Taking Action for Equality

The closing date for applications is Friday, 20th June 2008.
