MeCCSA PGN Call for Nomination for 3 Executive Committee Members
There are three roles available this year to post-graduate students wanting
to get involved in the MeCCSA post-graduate network. To be considered for
the post, please e-mail Kaity Mendes a nomination (you can nominate yourself
or get someone else to nominate you) by July 1st: [log in to unmask] Please
include your name, institution, year of study, the role you are interested
in, and a brief statement (max 100 words) of why you think you would be good
for this role. Voting will take place at the executive committee meeting at
the annual PGN conference in the University of Sussex July 1-2.
Please note that those wishing to take up an executive post must commit
themselves for at least one year (until the 2009 annual MeCCSA-PGN
conference), and will be expected to stay on as executive members for an
additional year, to act in a mentorship role for the new people coming in.
Those who are successful this year will be mentored by continuing members of
the executive committee who will be available for advice and guidance
throughout the upcoming year.
Chair:
The chair is responsible for the overseeing the network, facilitating
network developments, supporting executive committee members, and ensuring
the overall well being of the network.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Setting the agenda and presiding over the three annual MeCCSA PGN meetings
- Writing and delivering reports to the main exec committee at their meetings
- Being a spokesperson for the PG network
- Acting as a point of contact with post-graduate students
- Maintain and forge links with other organisations that aim to support
post-graduate students
Communications Officer:
The Communications Officer is responsible for planning, developing and
delivering the web-based communications of the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Circulating calls for papers, job advertisements, and information on
upcoming events relevant to the postgraduate community.
- Regularly updating the website with information on all the activities of
the PG network
- Uploading bi-annual issues of the journal 'Networking Knowledge: Journal
of the MeCCSA PGN'
- Delegating web based tasks
Secretary/Treasurer:
The secretary is responsible for keeping records of post-graduate network
activities.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Minute taking at post-graduate meetings (3 per year)
- Circulating minutes to the PG executive committee
- Ensuring spending is on track
In addition to the three executive committee members, we are also looking
for post-graduate students interested in the following non-executive roles:
Networking Knowledge: Journal of the MeCCSA PGN Editor
- Main responsibilities include collecting, editing, and proof-reading of
journal articles commissioned from PG symposiums and conferences.
Regional Events Co-ordinators
- Responsible for organising symposiums or conferences on topics of your
choice, aimed at post-graduate students and reporting on these for our
funders, the ADM-HEA magazine Networks. In the past, regional events have
included: Minding the Gap: Reflections on Media Practice & Theory; Mending
the Gap: Re-thinking Media Theory and Practice; Cultural Borrowings: A Study
Day on Appropriation, Reworking and Transformation; ‘Sharing Experience’:
Audiences in Media, Communication and Cultural Studies.
