Residential Eligibility to Apply for Studentships

Due to funding restrictions, only UK/EU students may apply, in line with
ESRC/EPSRC residency requirements.
*EU candidates must fulfil the research councils' residential requirements
to be eligible for the stipend.

Established UK Residency

To be eligible to get a stipend from a doctoral training grant, students
must demonstrate a relevant connection with the UK, usually established by
being ordinarily resident for a period of three years immediately before the
date of application for an award. Ordinarily resident means not wholly or
mainly resident for the purpose of full-time education. A relevant
connection may be established for a student who is an EU national if the
student has been in full-time education in the UK throughout the three years
preceeding the start date of their PhD.

Fees Only Award

If students have a relevant connection to an EU country other than the UK,
they are not eligible for a stipend but a university can pay their fees from
a doctoral training grant.

Academic Qualifications Required to Apply for ESRC Studentships

It is preferred that candidates for the ESRC awards possess an ESRC
accredited Masters qualification, however, it may be possible to make a case
to the ESRC for exceptional candidates with other qualifications who do not
meet this criteria.

Application Procedure

Please email a covering letter, stating which award(s) you wish to be
considered for, along with your CV to Christiane Morgan
([log in to unmask]). The closing date for receipt of applications
is Friday 27th June 2008.
