SCOTTISH ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AGENCY

JOB SUMMARY

POST TITLE:  GIS Developer  

GRADE:       Senior Programmer – Grade 19 £28,885 - £34,107

LOCATION:    Based in Riccarton (Edinburgh) there will be some requirement 
to visit other offices, especially Stirling Headquarters.

REPORTS TO:  IS Manager - Development

JOB PURPOSE: To be involved in the development of the Geographic 
Information Systems facility. To be responsible for the GIS 
Intranet/Internet site and to work with the organisation in providing GIS 
based solutions to business problems.

Key Responsibilities:
·  Work with the provision and delivery of GIS facilities to the 
organisation.
·  Play a lead role in maintenance and development of GIS based internet 
applications.
·  Be responsible for all aspects of data set management for both 
internally derived and externally supplied layers.
·  Provide training and technical support to GIS users throughout SEPA.
·  Advise on the GIS aspects of SEPA projects and business needs.
·  Through liaison with other functions and external bodies, play a role 
in the adoption of GIS and the development of national standards 
throughout SEPA.

Qualifications and Experience:
·       A degree or equivalent in an IT or GIS related subject.
·       At least two years relevant experience in GIS related work.
·       Experience of internet based design preferably using the .net 
environment
·       Two years experience in the use of ESRI Arc product set including 
Info, View and IMS, ArcObjects.
·       Experience in the  following would be an advantage
·       Oracle RDBMS
·       Oracle Spatial 
·       ESRI SDE 
·       ESRI ArcServer 
·       Ability to deal with external organisations at a technical level 
while maintaining SEPA’s professional image.

SALARY:

£28,885 to £34,107. The successful candidate will be placed at a point on 
this scale dependent on experience and qualifications.
