GIS Programmer / Analyst
The British Geological Survey (BGS) has vacancies for GIS Programmer /
Analysts based at its offices in Keyworth and Edinburgh. BGS is part of
the Natural Environment Research Council and is the UK’s premier
geoscience strategic mapping and research organisation.
You will be responsible for developing new products and managing technical
developments for projects using GIS and related web and database
technologies. You will also provide assistance and training in GIS to
other staff. A willingness to work overseas for short periods would be
desirable.
You should have a first degree in a geoscience or IT related subject and a
post-graduate GIS qualification. Some practical GIS application
development experience and experience using ESRI software is essential. In
addition experience of Web GIS would be highly desirable along with
experience of using Oracle and Access.
Starting salary will be between £18,770 to £27,990 per annum depending on
qualifications and experience. A generous benefits package is also
offered, including final salary company pension scheme, childcare
allowance, 30 days annual leave plus 10½ days public and privilege
holidays.
