With the usual apologies for cross-posting, please find details of an ESRC CASE studentship which may be of interest.
Newcastle University's Centre for Knowledge, Innovation, Technology and Enterprise (KITE) is inviting applications for an ESRC PhD CASE studentship starting in October 2008 entitled "Entrepreneurial Intentions in an Entrepreneurially Lagging Region: An Analysis of the Reasons for Relative Under-performance in North East England". The project seeks to explore perceptions of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial intent in the North East of England, an area where levels of entrepreneurial activity are low and perceptions of entrepreneurship are relatively negative. The project is in partnership with The Entrepreneurs' Forum Limited, a not for profit organisation whose aim is to foster enterprise and entrepreneurship in the North East of England.
The project will employ a multi-method approach analysing existing data, conducting an exploratory survey and subsequent in-depth interviews to focus on the way in which different categories of individuals construct their 'entrepreneurial' narratives, from their engagement with enterprise, and the influences that different employment, family, geographic, cultural, age conditions have on entrepreneurial intent.
The Economic and Social Research Council pays tuition fees and a stipend (currently £14,300 pa tax free). The collaborating partner pays the student an additional stipend of £2,000pa.
