WEB SITE NEWS
Student reflections on learning
The first batch of essays from this year's student competition have gone
online. The theme was "what makes the best learning experience for you
in economics?". The winning essays praise teaching that fosters student
debate, brings the subject to life with real-world examples and expands
the economics curriculum beyond the economy. More winning essays, and
video interviews with the award winners, will be added soon.

Case Study: Student attendance & lecture notes on VLEs: part of the
problem, part of the solution?
Paul Latreille, University of Swansea
"Among the various methods that might be deployed to address the issue
of student attendance at lectures, one possibility is to make ongoing
access to lecture notes on VLEs conditional on satisfactory attendance.
In one popular VLE, namely Blackboard, this can be achieved using the
'Adaptive Release' facility."

LSE Teaching Materials on Income Tax
Provided by Margaret Bray, LSE
The documents here are give a package of material on income tax, as used
in a second year undergraduate microeconomics course for economics
specialists at the London School of Economics. The material could also

A range of international speakers will meet to consider best practice in
addressing the challenges facing institutions as they evolve solutions
to the issue of ensuring authenticity in learners' work. Key themes for
the conference will consider ethical use of digital sources, approaches
